Eccleshill’s Sarah Squared, Rawlings and Myers ventured to the heart of the Lake Distrit to the picturesque village of Coniston for this popular race. The Coniston 14 is billed as probably the most beautiful road race in Britain. Each year it attracts some 1600 runners and has a reputation for being one of the best organised small races in the country. The Race is organised by an enthusiastic committee of volunteers from Coniston village. The race was established in 1982 as a community organised race with support from the Burlington Slate Company. It is a 14 mile road race around Coniston water and is claimed to be one of the most picturesque courses in Britain. It soon gained national recognition as a popular race for both club and fun runners and is now the largest event in Coniston’s calendar raising some £20,000 each year for local clubs, charities and good causes.  It is organised by a small, enthusiastic committee and supported by about 100 local volunteers on the day of the race. Beautiful Sorung sunshine greeted runners at the venue, John Ruskin School where the race starts and finishes. Coupled with the beautiful scenery this had to be once of the most perfect days for a run! Each finisher received afabulous slate coaster as a memento. Our Ladies finishing times were: Sarah Rawlings 2:22:10 & Sarah Myers 2:16:36. Well done ladies!
