HOLLYBANK ECCUP 10 MILE – SUNDAY 9TH JULY 2023

posted in: Race Reports | 0

Billed as Leeds most popular 10 mile road race! Now in its 30th year, the Hollybank Eccup 10 is back with its charitable partner, Hollybank Trust. This is race 9 in our summer championships and Linda Bussey, Dan Jenkins, Sarah Myers and Gemma Illingworth made the start line for Eccleshill. The course takes in rural closed roads and a scenic route around Eccup reservoir making this a very attractive 10 miler and a sell out most years. Abbey Runners will be making a donation to both Hollybank Trust and the clubs nominated 2023 charity Zarach (deliver beds and basics to children in poverty in Leeds) from the race proceeds and runners are encouraged to support by making an additional donation with their entry. They can also choose whether to receive a T-Shirt memento or have a tree planted on your behalf instead. Last year they raised over £700 to plant trees around Leeds in our first year of offering this option. Cool conditions made good going today in this event which was well supported by the locals who came out of their houses as well as plentiful marshals to guide and encourage the runners. Dan Jenkins led the team home this morning finishing in 1:06:23 followed by Gemma in 1:30:30 then Linda in 1:50:40 closely followed by Sarah in 1:51:08 A very good team effort by all four road runners. Great work team, well done!
