Our very own club mountain goat Dan Jenkins, switched his mindset this weekend and instead of frowning at the predicted weather forecast, decided to go all out for a very tough 22 mile fell race in the Lake District National Park. The Old Crown Round is a long hard fell race. Category AL 22.4 miles, 2200 m / 7218 ft of climb! In poor conditions runners could be in cloud, on open high fells and alone, they need to be confident in their ability to cope under these conditions. The race starts and finishes on the Village Greenin Hesket Newmarket. It completes a loop of the higher summits of the Northern fells of the Lake District. The terrain includes road, track, paths, open fields and open fell in some remote areas. Navigational skills are essential. There are checkpoints on the summits of Carrock Fell,Blencathra,Skiddaw house, Skiddaw summit Knott and High Pike. You can tell from the summit names that this is not for the faint hearted. Dan completed this amazing endurance challenge in (TBC) Fantastic effort of endurance, well done!
