HOLME VALLEY TRAIL HALF MARATHON – SATURDAY, 30TH SEPTEMBER 2023

A warm Yorkshire welcome was guaranteed to the town of Holmfirth in the Holme Valley and with the tag line ‘Does tha fancy a challenge? Come ‘n’ do a proper ‘un…’ who could resist, certainly not Eccleshill’s Daniel Jenkins. The Holme Valley Trail Half Marathon, is a hilly course with two loops of the moorland and forested tracks which are also enjoyed by the Stairway to Heaven trail race runners. The race forms part of The Summer Wine Series (not Last of!) where each race earns runners a unique magnetic piece of the jigsaw medal – all four interlock together. Before taking on this challenging course thought, the organisers recommend having at least some experience of trail running and the half marathon distance. Throughout the course runners encountered exposed sections, stream crossings, mud, rocky climbs and also a road section at the start, middle and finish. Dan’s description was that this was the “toughest start to any race he’s done, bar none”! This must have been the challenging climb after Holme Styes Reservoir which he ‘enjoyed’ twice! Dan finished in a fabulous time of 1:48:02, he was also first MV45 earning himself a prize! Well done!
