Eccleshill’s Tony Redmond & Mike Farrell took the blue and white flag to the Canary Islands this weekend with an opportunity to run either a marathon, a half marathon or a 10k in the warmer climate both opted for the half marathon. There was though, something for everyone with junior races also taking place on Friday. The event this year celebrated it’s 31st edition of the the race. Lanzarote in the Canary Islands has been a popular tourist destination for many years, and the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K races have grown in popularity and reputation with runners from all over the globe taking part. This is a well organised event on a flat and fast course along the coast. With an average temperature of 19 degrees Celsius in December both the half marathon and marathon courses run along the promenade between Costa Teguise and Puerto de Carmen across Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. The start Line is situated at Playa de los Pocillos, in Puerto del Carmen. It goes along Avenida de las Playas de las Playas towards to Arrecife. Early morning weather was apparently quite hot and humid making for challenging conditions for the race both ERRers faired brilliantly, finishing the course in fabulous times; Tony finished in 2:11:44 -and Mike 2:33:50 well done to both of you! Brilliant running!
