OLD COLLIERY CANTER – SUNDAY 11TH OCTOBER 2020

The Old Colliery Canter is another ‘It’s Grim Up North’ organised ‘covid safe’ race with a choice of 6 distances on offer, Eccleshill’s Ian Storey chose to take on the marathon distance. This well established race held in the South Yorkshire Country Park of Rabbit Ings, Royston, Barnsley boasts some of the most stunning scenery in South Yorkshire, a lapped race with each lap of just over 5 miles being on a good trail path with one ‘generous’ hill, marathon runners, therefore, needed to complete 5 laps! The park is home to a variety of wildlife to distract runners! By his own admission Ian found the race really tough going and ‘it was a tad lonely in places and very muddy, felt like giving up at loop 4 but had a chat with myself and pushed on through’ – in doing so Ian finished in a brilliant time of 4:44 (unofficial, TBC) . Well done Ian!
