STOCKPORT 10 MILE – SUNDAY 10TH DECEMBER 2023

Daniel Jenkins travelled to Stockport this morning wearing the blue and white vest for our club. He took on this 10 mile race which went ahead in almost perfect conditions for running at this time of the year.
Over the years the race has been hosted at two different venues before it settled in Woodbank park at the home of Stockport Harriers. The course is quite undulating over a testing 10 miles, mainly on the road, but with a short one and a half mile off-road section. The start and finish are at the Woodbank Stadium and there are two challenging climbs at 5 miles & 8½ miles. The course, although well marshalled, is not traffic free. You can expect to see around 1,500 runners taking part. The race committee has always tried to keep that ‘local race feel’ to it, whilst it’s increased in popularity over the years and become a ‘must do event’ on most runners’ race calendars. What makes it so popular and why do people keep coming back year after year? Some put it down to a well organised race along with vocal/encouraging marshals. Others talk about the variety of the terrain and the challenge of the hills. But the one thing that nearly everyone talks about is the ‘tongue in cheek’ approach that’s taken to its organisation. Today Dan posted a very impressive time of 01:14:06 another one to add to his race portfolio this year. Brilliant effort Dan, well done!
